One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned since becoming a (rainbow) mother is self-care. And I don’t mean just mentally but all around – physically, spiritually, emotionally. As a mom, we’re often stretched then – we’re chauffeurs, chefs, accountants, maids, small business owners, creatives, lovers, wives, etc. It also mean we tend to neglect one area of our lives to focus more on the bigger picture.

I have to say my journey started back in 2013 when I was pregnant and off work. Working for the state and also in the private sector meant I couldn’t really play around with my appearance very much. So naturally, when I was off work I decided this was going to be the time to have some fun. I started small with nail polish (if you’re a bit conservative with your appearance and want a change, I do suggest start small and work your way up). The biggest change came when I chopped off all of my hair. I did mention I’m working on a sleeve on my right arm.

Now it’s time to play with makeup.

Growing up, my mother was not a fan of makeup other than a little foundation and maybe some lipstick. So as I became older and wanted to experiment with makeup, while my mother wasn’t against it, she wasn’t for it. Eventually, she did purchase my first Iman compact and lip gloss when I was about 16.

I have to say due to that, I never really been comfortable with makeup, despite having friends do my face. I did glam it up on my wedding day and that’s what’s important. But for everyday use? Not really. I decided I need to stop playing so safe. We only have one life to live, right? Why not go for it?

So last week, I decided to experiment with different looks. I’m wearing the same base (NARS) and eye makeup (Too Faced) but I’ve noticed that people don’t really pay attention to my eyes very much. And for a while I wanted them to until a makeup artist asked me why when my lips were my best feature.

Heh. So let’s present my experimentation in lip colors, shall we?

I finally discovered Nyx after hearing so many of my IG friends rave about it. This is Praline.

I want to go for bolder looks so I’ll be featuring some deeper colors and more reds. This is fun. I wish I did this years ago!

No reason for this pic. I just really like it. 🙂
