Last week, my phone died. My phone was on the brink of dying for a while and it was acting all sorts of catawampus, but I hoped to extend it until at least October so I could have an upgrade for my birthday. Of course, during the middle of my son's preschool performance (I'm glad I was able to snap some pics prior. See below), my phone died.
So, for
You know I really love going to the festival because it really feels like I'm part of a tribe, you know? We all have similar experiences but we also have different paths and we can learn so much from each other. It's so awesome.
So, this past weekend, I was part of a panel discussing bullying on mixed kids. I actually spoke from the perspective of being a bullied parent
If you're in the L.A. area, please stop by and hang out for a bit. Meet some wonderful people and watch me speak on Parenting and Protecting your Mixed Race Kids from Bullying (wow, that's a mouthful!). I'll share my perspective from being bullied as a parent of a mixed-race child and the steps I'm doing to protect Bear.
I recently spoke on how we just acquired a new car and I was in the process of deciding what to do with my old one.

So yeah, it totally happened last night.
We heard a series of sirens and thought it was just a car accident. Then we heard a BOOM! that shook our windows, even making Sushi wonder what was going on.
Maks finally went outside to investigate (with Bear in tow) and discovered a fire right above us.

We live next to an elementary school and forest. We live next to the train
It's no secret Maks and I have co-slept with Bear since, well, birth. Not by choice, mind you. While he did sleep in his bassinet (and then crib), he always prefers sleeping with us. Plus, I was (am) breastfeeding at the time so it made sense to give him some boob as we (mainly he) slept.
Now, Bear is becoming a big boy. And big boys need their own rooms.
So, for the past year or so, we've been trying to get Bear to potty train. After putting him in school, his teachers revealed to us that he'll do it when he's ready and we can't force it. So we didn't. We bought special potty training books, a potty that's currently collecting dust and might be given away when we do donations this weekend, and a special toilet seat.
