Could You Be Loved

It’s time for a Bo update!

photo 1-1

Weight: 17 1/2 lbs.

Length/Height: 29 inches

Diaper size and type: Size 3, Huggies Little Movers. We are experimenting with cloth but still on the fence. We’ve tried blueberry/swaddlebees, which we both love. Alvas are pretty nice. I really liked the Kawaii overnights. I do know I hate the pockets and prefer the AIOs. I would love to purchase just one BumGenius to try it.  Though we do save some money and some diapers by doing cloth one day a week so far, I’m not too sure if purchasing more is worth the investment for just one child. Keep in mind, we live in an apartment and we don’t have our own washer/dryer inside the home. I found out if I purchase diapers in bulk every month, it comes out to the same as washing cloth diapers several times a week.

Onesie size: Depends on the brand. He’s in six-month clothing and nine-month.

Yoda discoveries: He likes to drop things. He thinks his feet are the coolest things ever.

What he loves: Seeing people. He loves baths and  he loves going out for walks. He loves the sights and sounds.

What he hates: He doesn’t like me being too gone out of his sight. He particularly doesn’t care for new people if they’re all over him. We also discovered he hates the hand-drying machine in the mall bathrooms. We had a bit of a freakout this past weekend when I had to change him and the machine scared him. 😦

Sleep habits/schedule: I try to not let Yoda stay up for longer than three hours at a time, though sometimes it’s hard to put him down. He takes several naps throughout the day and is still staying up all night to get lucky. I am trying to put him back on a schedule so we’ll see if that works.

Boobies, boobies, boobies: Still breastfeeding and plan to for a while. Ideally, I would love to breastfeed for a year while I introduce him to solid food in a few months. His pedi just advised not to have him start solids until he’s 7 months. I’m pretty excited about it! I can’t wait to introduce him to other foods.

Our special time: I’ve been reading and singing to him. I can’t sing worth crap so I hope I don’t scar him for life. I usually sing ‘He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands’ and ‘Jesus Loves Me’. I also read the Bible to him with a special Bible app for children on our iPad. M. also reads Russian fairytales to him.

Next milestone: Waiting for him to rollover.  Yep, he still hasn’t rolled over. He can sit up by himself, which is great, but when it comes to rolling over, he’ll get to the halfway point and just gives up. We do a little tummy time after each diaper change so just waiting for Yoda to do it on his own.

Weight: 16 lbs. at last pedi appointment.

Length/Height: 25 inches at last pedi appointment.

Diaper size and type: Size 3, Huggies Little Movers. Still waiting to find balls to try cloth diapering.

Onesie size: Depends on the brand. Some 3 month clothing still fits him (Carter’s and Old Navy) but he’s mostly in 6 month and 9 month. Yeah. 9 month! O.O

Yoda discoveries: He recently discovered his feet. He can’t reach them yet but I imagine that’s coming soon. He also discovered how to throw things. Lovely.

What he loves: Seeing people. He’s a very friendly baby! He loves baths and  he loves going out for walks. He loves the sights and sounds.

What he hates: I think he hates women’s perfumes in general. When we took him to M.’s work the other day, he had a strong reaction to another lady’s perfume (granted she doused the bottle on herself) so I have to be careful what I wear. He likes my body sprays and fragrant body washes, though, but I think they’re relatively light.

Sleep habits/schedule: I try to not let Yoda stay up for longer than three hours at a time, though sometimes it’s hard to put him down. Recently, he’s been staying up all night to get lucky so I’m trying to put him back on a schedule again. (His average bed time is 1 AM and it’s been that way for the past several weeks.) So I’m going to see if I can start putting him down for bed around 9 PM again. He’s taken a liking to sleep with me, which is ugh…I love the newborn snuggles but I really need Yoda to love his bed.

Boobies, boobies, boobies: Still breastfeeding and plan to for a while. Ideally, I would love to breastfeed for a year while I introduce him to solid food in a few months.

Our special time: I love taking him everywhere with me. I’ve been trying to get back into shape without cutting calories so I take him on walks with me. If I do laundry, I bring him with me to get it or place him in the same room with me as I fold.

Next milestone: Waiting for him to rollover. We do a little tummy time after each diaper change so just waiting for Yoda to do it on his own.

We Got a Love Thang

So we pretty much have everything we need for Yoda’s arrival. Well, everything but the tub. Finding a good tub is hard. We want a tub that’s good quality and can last for at least a couple of years, well into toddlerdom. Though, we did receive this gem at the baby shower:

This tub is just too flippin’ cute but I need to get a smaller one for Yoda for the time being.

Originally, I wanted M’s parents to get Yoda’s tub but they’re insistent on getting it after he arrives. Their thought process is an interesting one; they feel if they buy baby stuff before he arrives, it’ll send evil spirits to our home to harm me and the baby. They’re not religious people but they believe in evil spirits. Huh? Yes, take a moment to process that.

Now, while I understand respect scratching my head don’t get why they feel that way, it is what it is. However, I’m a planner and I like to plan things ahead even if no one else in my families do. I also don’t want to be in a position where I’m dependent on them for something and it when it comes time for that one thing, there are reasons why I can’t have it; lack of money being one of those.

So M and I started shopping around for a newborn tub. There are so many. There are too many. What the hell? I just want a simple tub that will guarantee Yoda won’t drown and will stay put while he doesn’t pee on me.

Here are the top contenders:

bluetub

I like The First Years Sure Comfort Deluxe Newborn-to-Toddler Tub with Sling because it does come with a sling for a newborn and I can keep this tub when Yoda is a toddler. Also, it’ll be nice to have when Yoda’s other siblings arrive.

This tub is the Fisher-Price Precious Planet Whale of a Tub. It’s actually pretty cute and would fit in our kitchen sink and very easily in our bathtub. It’s also good for toddlers.

puj

A friend recommended the puj. I’m not too keen on it. It looks…hmm…weird. I think that’s the word I’m looking for. Weird. It folds for storage as seen below:

foldedpuj

I think a part of the reason why I’m not sold on the puj is because it’s clearly for newborns. If Yoda comes out weighing an estimated 8-9 pounds like my doctors are predicting, he won’t be in this bathtub very long. In fact, he probably won’t be in this bathtub past the first week!

So we have a few options but we’re probably going to go for one of the top two choices. Now we got that out of the way, let’s discuss how he should be bathed:

I’ll be honest: I really had no idea there was a science to bathing a newborn. I didn’t know bathing soaps were optional when it comes to newborns and I also didn’t know a newborn shouldn’t be bathed until the umbilical cord stump has fallen off. What the hell? I’m going to be a Mommy (again) soon! I don’t know any of this shit!

Remember when I said I was feeling overwhelmed? Yeah. It just tripled now.
