High-end Makeup Review: Chanel Blush

I was in search for a new blush and I wanted something that offered pigmentation but not too much. The last thing I needed was to look like a clown.

Before, I ‘ve used L’Oreal, Maybelline, and my all-time favorite, MAC. I figured this time around I’ll go a bit more high-end. I guess I felt like blowing some monayyyyyy.

Anyhoo, while I was at Macy’s, I decided to stop by the Chanel makeup counter. Yeah, I told you this was going to be a fancy smancy review. The makeup artist tried two colors on me and honestly, I loved them both.  They were Rose Tourbillion and Pink Explosion. We decided to go with Pink Explosion.

Upon arriving at home, I took it out of the bag and was rather impressed with the packaging:

It looks cute in the box, yes. Now what does it look out of the box?

Yo, this came in a velvet bag! What the…?

Well, then!

So, I applied it and I was a little taken aback that it is lightly perfumed. Yes, this blush has a perfume scent. I have a sensitive nose so that was something I would’ve considered before purchase. If you’re wondering why I didn’t smell it at the store, I honestly thought I was smelling the make-up artist applying the blush.

Regardless, the pigment on this bad boy is out of this world. It’s deeply impacted so you only need to apply just a little. It also has a bit of a shimmer so you really don’t want to apply too much.

Focus on my cheeks. 🙂

I didn’t need to apply too much. It gave me a natural rosy glow but I didn’t look like I got up beat up by my blush and lost the fight.

Now that we know the player and watched the game, how did it score?

  • Lots of pigmentation. You won’t have to use a whole lot. This will probably become your favorite blush.
  • Chanel is a solid brand.
  • You can purchase at any Chanel makeup counter and online.

  • There is a faint perfume scent. If you have a sensitive nose like I do, buyer beware.
  • This. Costs. Fifty. Dollars. $50.00 USD. This is a definite splurge.

Overall, I do recommend it. It’s a splurge, for sure. But I also believe if you’re going to wear makeup, there’s nothing wrong investing into some high-end makeup every once in a while.

What’s your favorite blush?

Week of Holiday Makeup Looks! Are you serving good lip?

It’s been a long, hot minute since I’ve done makeup posts and since I’ve acquired some new makeup, I’m going to spend this week talking about my new makeup! Are you ready? Let’s goooooo!

Just as a warning, I might be posting the same photos since I’m wearing two new makeup purchases on my face, namely my blush and foundation. The focus of these photos are my lips. Muah!

Let’s start off with a picture I literally just took yesterday! LOL. The shade of lipstick I’m wearing is from DOSE cosmetics, Kiss of Fire. I’m usually apprehensive about wearing red lipstick because sometimes it just doesn’t look good on me, point blank. Some of the colors might be too orange or too pink. I felt this one was actually just right.

My lips are also courtesy of Dose Cosmetics, but I combined two colors: Chocolate Wasted and Goalz.

Lastly, the lip color on my resting bitch face (smile!) is courtesy of NYX cosmetics. I’m wearing Praline. I’ll be highlighting a lot of different NYX colors throughout the week.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this short and sweet makeup post on Christmas Eve. I hope you have a Merry Christmas!!

Dark Skin Makeup Review – LANCĂ”ME Teint Idole Ultra Liquid 24H Longwear SPF 15 Foundation

Boy, that was a wordy title.

So, I love Ulta. It’s actually one of my favorite stores. And because it’s one of my favorite stores, I really can’t shop there very much. It’s one of those stores where it’s like Target in a sense; you go in there for just one thing and you come back with a cart full of crap you probably don’t need but you really want?

I was done with my Fenty Beauty foundation and wanted to try something different. Don’t get me wrong, I love Fenty Beauty but I’m also a wee bit of a product junkie so I wanted to explore my options.

I went into Ulta bare-faced and was just browsing the over the counter foundation section. Listen, y’all…being a brown girl and having dark skin, it’s super difficult to find foundations in my shade. My shade is particular because there’s a lot of gold and olive in my undertones (something I didn’t know until I went to Ulta but that explanation will come later).

In other words, I’m naturally yellow. Not high yella like Drake but let’s just say gold jewelry more or less blends in with me.

I’m searching all over the store, trying to find the perfect foundation that won’t make me look too dark or too bright. Let me tell you, for a dark-skinned gal, it’s incredibly frustrating. Just when I was about to give up, a male associate approaches me.

“Do you need help, miss?” He asks.

“Yes,” I say with exasperation, “I’m looking for a foundation for me.”

“Now, do you want something that will highlight your golden undertones or your olive one?”

Now, I’m looking at Ole Boy as if he had a third eye on his head. He knew that just by looking at me? What. The. Hell.

“Um, my golden undertones?” I stumbled out.

“And which brand do you prefer? LANCĂ”ME or NARS?”

Did y’all catch that? He already knew what brands would be suited for best. My heart stumbles…

“Um, LANCĂ”ME please.” I chose LANCĂ”ME because I’ve have enough NARS products in my arsenal, though I haven’t tried their foundation. That will come later, I promise.

So, with my bare face and all, another makeup artist tried LANCÔME on me. She did half of my face while left the other half bare. I immediately saw a difference. My left side appeared clearer and smoother.

I was sold.

I’m well aware to know how I look inside a store might be wordly different from how I’ll look at home or in natural light.

I’m wearing 500W.

Pretty dope, huh?

Okay, now that we know the players, played the game, how did everyone score?

  • LANCĂ”ME is a solid brand and it’s been around forevaaaaaaa
  • It comes in a variety of shades:

  • The foundation also acts as a moisturizer and sunscreen.
  • It goes on smooth and it’s super light.
  • It’s available pretty much everywhere LANCĂ”ME is sold.

  • It’s pricey. This cost me a little under $50.
  • You have to carefully gauge how much to pump out. For me, two pumps usually does the trick.
  • Blending might be tricky so it takes a lot of practice.

Overall, I do recommend it. If you’re unsure about your shade like I was, it’s best to go a beauty expert so they can test drive ones for you.

Makeup Product Review – Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty

I know I’m hella late on reviewing Fenty Beauty. I know this. But better late than ugly, right? My makeup bag says so:

You can purchase that bag here.

I’m sure you have heard all of the rave (and not-so great) reviews of Fenty Beauty by Rihanna. Boasting of 40 shades, it has been revolutionary in the world of makeup and literally something for every skin shade.

Naturally, I had to try it.

I went to Sephora to find out what my shade was (and I highly recommend everyone do that because you might think you’re one shade but really you’re another one entirely). The great saleslady at Sephora helped me and got it right the first time! Score!

Of course, this was some months back when it was sold out everywhere so I had to wait a few months (and also why this review of it is late). I have to say, though…I’m quite impressed!

It goes on very smooth and has no smell that I can tell (I have a sensitive nose, a side effect of my pregnancy with Bear), and it’s deep in pigmentation. It’s literally the perfect shade for my skin tone and I don’t have to play the mix and match guessing game with so  many other foundations. I say Fenty Beauty is right up there with my beloved Iman and MAC Cosmetics.

But the proof is in the pudding, right? So, let’s do a before pic of me with no makeup:

This is an oldish pic of me (taken Last December) but trust, I look like this every day. All day, every day.  Dark circles and all.

Now let’s see a pic of me all glammed up and what-not:

Lovely. The magic of sleep and a great concealer. I’m 440, for those wondering.

So, now that we’ve met the players, and saw the game, what was the score?

  • Affordable. It sells for $34. So, yes, it’s pricey if you’re used to drugstore makeup, but it’s not going to break your bank. It also lasts for a long time even with every day use.
  • 40 Shades, yo! There is literally a shade for everyone.
  • Deep pigmentation. It makes your skin look better. Flyer. Hotter. Fresher. Hell, you can just wear it alone and you still be poppin’ flavor and drippin’ sauce.

  • It’s not available everywhere. You have to get it at Sephora (online and in all stores) or Fenty Beauty online.
  • The foundation does come out a bit runny so you have to be careful on how much you pump out. For me, it’s usually 2-3 pumps.
  • You have to shake the liquid foundation every time you use it. If you already have liquid foundation, this is a no-brainer because they actually say that on the bottle (Fenty does, too). Now, this is not really a con but more like an annoyance. Sometimes if time is running low, you just want to put it on and not worry about shake-shake-shake your bottle.

I do recommend it! No question. Give it a whirl!

Product Review – NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer

I love NARS. I love NARS. I love NARS. I love NARS. I’m not entirely sure how it was I discovered NARS (I think a Sephora rep gave me their product to try and I was hooked, or at least that’s the urban legend I put together in my head), but it doesn’t matter.

I love NARS. It’s very rare I find a product from them I hate. Well, hate is a strong word. Let’s just say strongly dislike or not as in love with it as I would be. There, that’s better.

But when I find a product that I love?

So, I’ve been on the hunt for a new concealer since I used the hell out of my old one. I wasn’t trying my luck with another brand too quickly (when I’m loyal to a brand, I’m loyal for lyfe!) but I wasn’t sure what I wanted.

Entered NARS. Le sigh. Even just typing the name gives me the warm fuzzies.

So, they had a demo of one of their other concealers and I’m like, heyyy boo….let me put you on ma face.

I decided…hmm…let me try this.

So, it’s pretty small! I mean it’s smaller than a sauce packet at McDonald’s. Pretty small. And pretty expensive – $30.

It’s super creamy! Like, very velvety.

So how does it look?

I give good face.

So let’s go over the review:

  • NARS is a quality brand.
  • Available online and in Sephora.
  • It’s very smooth and covers very well.
  • You don’t have to use an applicator or sponge! You can simply use your fingertips (though, many have sworn on the Beauty Blender…which is the next review!)
  • A little goes a long way. It’ll last you a while.

Now for every good thing, there’s some bad…

  • It’s fucking expensive, yo. There are no two ways about it. $30. I repeat, $30.
  • It’s quite small so unless you absolutely need to carry this on you, keep it at home.

I highly recommend this concealer! It’s my new favorite! So, give it a try! You won’t regret it!
