Let me just preface this I love Tracee Ellis Ross.
I’ve followed her career for years and I love just about everything she does. I also love how open, free, and funny she is. She’s a fashion maven and just an incredibly all-around good person.
That being said, it pains me to say her Pattern hair care product line really, truly f*cking sucks.
I’m on my natural hair challenge where I’m only using shampoo, conditioner, and hair grease. Nothing more and nothing less. I bought the Pattern hair care at Marshall’s for me and Bear to try. I decided to try it on Bear’s hair. Bear has super curly, super fine Type 3A hair. It gets tangled hella easily and I got my detangling pattern down to a science.
Not with Pattern, no.
For starters, the shampoo, while it smelled great, didn’t lather very well. I was surprised because this hair care line was meant for those with curly or coily hair. I really felt a certain way when the conditioner had little-to-no slip. I even put some more into Bear’s hair to see if maybe I just didn’t use enough. No, I used enough. This conditioner just sucked.
Detangling his hair – a procedure that would’ve taken 10-15 minutes at the most – turned into a 30-minute struggle. I’m like, what the hell is going on here? Why is this boy’s hair so damn tangled? First, I thought it was because he was active. Then, I thought maybe it was because he didn’t shower for a day. None of it made any sense.
I finally started going back into my mind what was the reason behind his possible entanglements…and the Pattern hair care was the only change.
FML.
It took me forever to detangle Bear’s hair with a hair care product that I adore. But unfortunately, it meant I couldn’t use Pattern hair care and give it a solid positive review. I was about to use it on my head and thank the Good Lord I thought otherwise.
I usually do pros and cons with posts like this but there are no pros. Don’t buy this shit, fam.
