Natural Hair Update

So, for the past several months, I decided to tackle a challenge (click here for a refresher). My rules – only shampoo, conditioner, and hair grease. That’s it.

And other rules:

  • Very little heat, sparingly.
  • Can switch up my shampoo and conditioner.
  • Protective hair styling is encouraged.
  • Co-washing conditioners are acceptable.
  • I dye my hair about every 6-8 weeks.
  • I also trim my hair every 6 weeks or as needed.
  • I wash my hair at least twice a week.

So, how has it been? A challenge! LOL. How about that? My challenge is a challenge.

Nah, but for real, it’s been great. I don’t have to worry about waking up and putting a ton of product on my hair to achieve a certain look. I can literally just brush, put it in a style, and jet. That’s it! I low-key live for this low maintenance life.

I recently switched shampoo and conditioner. I was using Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil shampoo and conditioner until I ran out. I didn’t want my hair to get to used to that so I tried the Jozi brand from Target. I hated it, LOL. I really had issues with that brand. I know other natural hair bloggers loved it but I just couldn’t get with it.

So, now I trying the Mane Choice and so far, I love it! I especially love the Pink Lemonade and Coconut conditioner. I must warn, however, it can be rather challenging to get out of the bottle! It’s super thick!

My hair is much thicker and fuller! I can’t really comment on length because it’s still very much in its natural state. I will say it’s probably below my neck now. When I updated before, it was neck-length.

Now, there is a downside – going this natural does really limit what I can do with my hair but that’s the point – I’m supposed to do as little manipulation as possible.

So far so good. The goal is to have bra-strap length so I’m inching my way there, pardon the pun. Do you have any hair challenges this year? If so, have they been easy or more than what you intended? Sound off!
