Several weeks ago, my old high-school friend, Stephanie, sent me a care package. I meant to do this review sooner but then the pandemic happened and I also got a job. Crazy.
Anyhoo, let’s talk about the Monat hair care system. It’s not available in any store. Not Ulta. Not Sephora. Not even Macy’s or anything high-end.
I have to keep it real with y’all. Monat is a MLM (multi-level marketing) company. I’m not a customer or representative and I received free products in return for my honest review.
I followed the instructions: Rinse off the hair, washed twice, conditioned once, and then put in the leave-in and curling cream in. The products we used were the following:
The Super Nourish Oil Creme Shampoo.
The Super Nourish Oil Creme Conditioner.
The Unknot Detangler.
And then this happened:
Like OMG.
Oh, and this happened, too:
My hair was so curly and just so darn clean, y’all.
Speaking of honesty, the haircare system worked for me and Bear, however, we only used it for about two weeks. We didn’t use it for a month, nor did we both experience any issues with our usage. Our hair didn’t fall out. We didn’t get any burns or scars. Our hair wasn’t extra flaky.
I’m stating this upfront because a quick Google search will show you that Monat has some issues that have yet to be addressed in terms of allergic reactions, and the ingredients used in their products. In fact, they’re actually suing a woman because of her review and Facebook group. And I’m sure this Medium article doesn’t help.
Now, when we used up our products and went back to our regularly-scheduled shampoo and conditioner, I saw no side effects. My hair wasn’t falling out in clumps, neither was Bear’s. His hair wasn’t overly tangled or limp. Neither was mine.
Bear has Type 3 curly hair. I have Type 4 coily hair. Does that make a difference in how our hair responded to the Monat hair care system? I can’t tell you. I do know our hair is fine without any issues. Yet.
So, let’s recap.
Pros:
- Hair was super clean.
- Hair was super manageable.
- Products smell great.
- The curls and coils popped with the products.
Cons:
- It’s very expensive. A quick glance at their company product page will have you planning to budget to afford it. Unless you’re a VIP member or customer, look to spend a minimum of $100.
- It’s not a one size fits all. There are a few bad reviews about the product so buyer beware.
The bottom line:
My hair was super clean and Bear’s hair looked amazing. I also recognize that everyone’s mileage will vary with this system, like with any other hair care product.
So, I do cautiously recommend. There are more positive than negative reviews and even a friend I’ve known for a long time who has no connection to my friend, Stephanie, also recommended Monat. The negative reviews, however, are something to consider.
