Boy, that was a wordy title.
So, I love Ulta. It’s actually one of my favorite stores. And because it’s one of my favorite stores, I really can’t shop there very much. It’s one of those stores where it’s like Target in a sense; you go in there for just one thing and you come back with a cart full of crap you probably don’t need but you really want?
I was done with my Fenty Beauty foundation and wanted to try something different. Don’t get me wrong, I love Fenty Beauty but I’m also a wee bit of a product junkie so I wanted to explore my options.
I went into Ulta bare-faced and was just browsing the over the counter foundation section. Listen, y’all…being a brown girl and having dark skin, it’s super difficult to find foundations in my shade. My shade is particular because there’s a lot of gold and olive in my undertones (something I didn’t know until I went to Ulta but that explanation will come later).
In other words, I’m naturally yellow. Not high yella like Drake but let’s just say gold jewelry more or less blends in with me.
I’m searching all over the store, trying to find the perfect foundation that won’t make me look too dark or too bright. Let me tell you, for a dark-skinned gal, it’s incredibly frustrating. Just when I was about to give up, a male associate approaches me.
“Do you need help, miss?” He asks.
“Yes,” I say with exasperation, “I’m looking for a foundation for me.”
“Now, do you want something that will highlight your golden undertones or your olive one?”
Now, I’m looking at Ole Boy as if he had a third eye on his head. He knew that just by looking at me? What. The. Hell.
“Um, my golden undertones?” I stumbled out.
“And which brand do you prefer? LANCÔME or NARS?”
Did y’all catch that? He already knew what brands would be suited for best. My heart stumbles…
“Um, LANCÔME please.” I chose LANCÔME because I’ve have enough NARS products in my arsenal, though I haven’t tried their foundation. That will come later, I promise.
So, with my bare face and all, another makeup artist tried LANCÔME on me. She did half of my face while left the other half bare. I immediately saw a difference. My left side appeared clearer and smoother.
I was sold.
I’m well aware to know how I look inside a store might be wordly different from how I’ll look at home or in natural light.
Pretty dope, huh?
Okay, now that we know the players, played the game, how did everyone score?
PROS:
- LANCÔME is a solid brand and it’s been around forevaaaaaaa
- It comes in a variety of shades:
- The foundation also acts as a moisturizer and sunscreen.
- It goes on smooth and it’s super light.
- It’s available pretty much everywhere LANCÔME is sold.
CONS:
- It’s pricey. This cost me a little under $50.
- You have to carefully gauge how much to pump out. For me, two pumps usually does the trick.
- Blending might be tricky so it takes a lot of practice.
Overall, I do recommend it. If you’re unsure about your shade like I was, it’s best to go a beauty expert so they can test drive ones for you.
