Normally I would have songs as blog posts titles but today is just too important. Tonight, as I’ve done for the last two years, I’ll light a candle in honor of my angels, jellybean (4w6d loss) and Ethan (22w2d loss).
It saddens me how society is so accepting to talk about other forms of loss such as cancer, but no one wants to talk about pregnancy loss. Many women have miscarriages; some have them and they don’t know they’re pregnant until it happened. A woman having a miscarriage should not be a taboo subject. A woman having a pregnancy loss (early or late) should be discussed openly and there should be a wide range of support. Many women suffer on a regular basis because it has been taught, instructed, drilled in our heads that because it is such a personal subject, it should be ignored. I won’t be ignored and neither will the millions of women (and even men) around the world who had suffered the same fate. No one wants to be an Angel Parent but it’s a role we’re thrust into and we have to be for the rest of our lives. While some people can choose not to talk about it, we have to live with it every.single.day of our lives, whether we want to or not.
Where ever you are in the world, please light a candle tonight for those who have suffered through pregnancy loss. I will be lighting a candle in honor of my angels.
