By now, if you’re a Halloween veteran (and most of you should be!), you already know the do’s and don’ts of Halloween. However, if you’re new to the Halloween game and you’re going out this year, here are some tips to make your Halloween safe as possible.
Now, this only applies to those who go trick-or-treating, but I will add some tips for those who are staying at home!
Are you ready? Let’s go!
Have flashlights
Seriously. You don’t realize how dark some neigborhoods are and I personally know of a few that have absolutely no street lights. Carry a flashlight!
Carry I.D. and other essential cards
If you have a costume that doesn’t mesh well with a purse or backpack, carry your ID. You can wear it on you (at a risk it might fall out!) or carry a wristlet.
Have a cell phone, fully-charged
Just about everyone has a cell phone, but this will come in handy in case of an emergency or plans change.
Pair Up or Travel in a Group.
Trick-or-treating is usually more fun in a group setting, anyway. However, if you’re going solo, make sure someone else knows your plans so they know where to find you if your group separates.
Choose a Costume that’ll Be Free of Hazards or Safety Issues
Now, this might be a little late since this is the day before Halloween, but be aware of your costume and where you’ll be traveling.
Slow down and be alert!
Please be mindful of your surroundings and people. There will be a lot of kids and strollers!
Use all traffic signals and crosswalks
This is super important! Because it’s dark, cars will not slow down in time! Too many accidents have involved children and parents wanting to take a shortcut. Please, please, PLEASE use the sidewalks, crosswalks, and traffic signals!
