If you’re not familiar with Terrell Starr, you should be. He’s an American scholar/independent journalist who lives in Ukraine and has covered both invasions from Russia on Ukraine.
I should add, he’s a Black American journalist.
The worldwide media, I feel, intentionally covered the Russian invasion of Ukraine as evil white people killing poor white people. Ukraine, however, is a lot more diverse than that. There are Latino Ukrainians, Nigerian Ukrainians, and even Asian Ukrainians.
Of course, the Russian invasion of Ukraine is a bit more personal for me for many reasons, namely my husband, Maks, and our son, Bo. My husband still has a lot of family back in Ukraine, though his parents here in the U.S. are staunchly pro-Russian and pro-Putin (needless to say, I go out of my way to avoid them at all costs).
I’ve followed Terrell for quite some time, and I enjoy his gonzo style of journalism. He did a rather lengthy interview I encourage everyone to watch. He speaks about his experiences living as a Black man in Ukraine, how Ukrainians really feel about the war, and what he thinks about Putin.
There are other videos on the Ukrainer channel I highly recommend:
Jews of Ukraine:
Little India in Ukraine:
There are other videos regarding Ukraine I also highly recommend!
Black History in Ukraine:
Korean-Ukrainians seeking refuge in South Korea
I encourage everyone to watch the videos and continue to support Ukraine against the invasion from Russia. Slavi Ukraine!
