So, in the last post, I talked about the things you can do at home as a family on super hot days. It’s time to talk about things you can at home solo.

Maybe you have some free time alone or maybe you just need to chill for a bit. Now, you could catch up on cleaning, Netflix (or whatever streaming app you prefer), or just sleep (I highly recommend naps!). But if none of those sound appealing and leaving the home isn’t something you want to do due to the weather, here are some options you can choose from!

Create a summer music playlist.

Every summer, I create a playlist of just fun, summer jams. It’s usually eclectic and spans a few decades of music. It’s music you put on to just chill or have a cookout.

To get some ideas, here’s my playlist I update every summer!

Treat yourself to a spa day at home.

If you can’t afford a spa day, no worries! You probably have all the stuff you need, and it’ll be a 1/3 of the cost! Use a body scrub, pumice stones, and a moisturizer to make your body feel soft.

To get some ideas of products to be used, here are some recs from Amazon I can personally vouch for!

Catch up on the latest TV shows/movies

With the current strikes ongoing, there is no set date when it’ll all end. Now would be a great time for everyone to catch up on the shows and movies you’ve been meaning to check out but haven’t gotten around to it.

Play with makeup

This is a unisex suggestion, but there’s nothing wrong with doing something different with your appearance. Now would be a great time to try a new look, experiment with different makeup, and so much more.

Learn a new language

I’m currently on Duolingo, learning Spanish and Ukrainian. Duolingo proudly tells everyone you can learn a language by spending 15 minutes a day, but I usually do 30 minutes.

Practice yoga

There are many different types of yoga and it’s not one size fits all. I personally love this yoga DVD that’s been in my arsenal for a very long time:

Bake/cook

I know baking or cooking isn’t the one thing anyone wants to do on a hot day, but if you’re hungry and ordering in isn’t the thing you want, trying a new recipe is the thing.

Declutter

Could you go through all those old papers and files? I’m sure you have something from years back you even forgot you have!

Meditate

I recently got into meditating and it’s worked wonders for my spirit. I highly recommend this app, Insight Timer. It’s FREE and there is an option to tip your mediation teachers if you like.

Donate old clothing/items

While wearing vintage is in and has never really gone out of style, there are some things you can admit you’re not wearing or using Donate!

Recycle

Bottles, cans, paper, and whatever else will help clear out your home.

Create a charcuterie board

Maybe you don’t want a full meal and want to snack on something? Make a charcuterie (char-cut-er-ree) board. You’ll soon become an expert! Here are some tips from an old post!

Curl up with a good book

Going back to the actors/writer’s strike, this is also a good time to catch up on reading.

Play a video game.

If you don’t have a game console, no worries! Many people are really digging Nintendo Switch Lite. (And it comes in different colors!)

If you have an iPhone, Apple Arcade also has many games.

Start a journal

Maybe seeking a therapist is too expensive right now, but you need to get all these emotions out somehow? Start a journal. It’ll be out of your mind and then over and done.

Work on your fantasy league (if applicable)

I’m not big on fantasy leagues, but they are very popular. Depending on the sport, you can work and monitor yours as the season goes.

Learn a new sport.

Speaking of sports, I’ve become a fan of curling. I’m still not entirely sure what it’s about but I do know I love t and I watch every chance I get.

Wash your car.

I washed my car the other day and it took about 2 hours. It was a good workout and I was a little surprised on how long it took to wash my car since it’s only a Camry (this also included me detailing the car as well). But hey, I was not bored.

Write a letter

I love stationery and I love writing letters. You’ll be surprised the number of people who want to receive handwritten letters and notes in the mail. Being online and on social media can often be rather impersonal, but receiving a handwritten card or note in the mail is very personal. Do it. It’ll make you feel good!

Learn a new hobby

Your local community college always offers courses to take just for fun or enrichment. And why not? You’ll be skilled in something you didn’t know before.
