So, we’ve lived in this duplex for a little over two years now. We’ve gone through some changes trying to figure out what we wanted to do with our yards.
You see, we’ve come from an apartment when we’ve had porches and balconies. To have a full backyard and a full front yard is well…pretty awesome. Bear is growing at a rapid rate so he needs space to roam until we find a bigger home (we are saving up for a permanent home).
Our cats, Sushi and Smokee, love the backyard space and spend a lot of time just roaming around.
But, as we figured out how much longer we wanted to be in our current space and what we wanted to do with it, we decided to dress it up. It gets pretty hot in Pasadena and the sun can bear down pretty bad. It’s taken us some time to get to where it is so let’s take a look!
This is our backyard when we first moved in. Yeah, pretty big for a duplex and it’s very contained. It seems claustrophobic from this angle but really, it’s not.
We were supposed to get a bigger backyard but plans fell through with COVID-19. The owners were going to extend the backyard and we were contemplating a dog but those plans are on hold until things get back to semi-normal, I guess?
But as you can tell with the above photo, there’s a lot of sun that shines down. And again, it gets hot pretty quickly. After going back and forth on what we should do, we decided to get a pergola:
Huge difference already!
Make purchased the lights to add since I’ve always wanted backyard lights. The pergola was a belated Mother’s Day gift. 🙂
Let’s talk about the simple bistro furniture. It’s from IKEA. We wanted a small seating area but we do plan to expand it.
Make actually got this idea from one of his friends. He put the rug, which was originally an indoor one, and put it underneath the bistro, it would make it more home-like. And he was right!
And of course, the girls love the area!
