Today marks one year since the Eaton Fire.
I’ve gone back and forth on whether I wanted to write about it at all. Part of me wants to let the date pass quietly, like a storm that already moved through. Another part of me knows that silence can feel like erasure—like pretending nothing changed when, in reality, everything did.
So this is me choosing to acknowledge it.

As the Eaton fire slowly extinguishes, the devastation remains. Many Black Altadena residents still need a lot of help and support to rebuild and survive. While many of the white Altadena residents have already met their gofundmes, the gofundmes for Black residents still need to be funded.

Altadena is a hard place to describe: it's hipster. It's wealthy. It's middle-class. It's poor. It's everything.
And it's burned down.
Bear's school is in Altadena, and I often did a lot of work and volunteering in Altadena, so I was there often. And it's still unbelievable what happened
