I have a stink problem.
No matter what type of detergent I use, how I use it, or how many times I wash something, there’s always a funk of stink that remains. It’s tough when you have an active child AND an active husband AS WELL as being active myself!
But no, we’re not going to be known as the STANK family.
After trying numerous of other dtergents and getting nothing but empty pockets in return, I decided to do something about the STANK problem, we have – turn to Beyonce’s internet.
When I used to live in Highland Park, an old neighbor, Lorena, told me how she used to use vinegar and bleach to get out the really nasty and tough stains and orders. I’m not entirely sure if she used them together but it got me thinking – I need to try that.
As I did some research, I discovered how useful vinegar really is. And not the fancy vinegar you use in food but the plain old store brand vinegar (it’s there for a reason!)
Here are my tips for using vinegar in laundry! Let’s gooooooo!
It Helps Remove that Stank.
You know what I’m talking about – the stank you really can’t get rid of no matter how much you try. No matter how many times you wash, or what type of detergent you use, that stank is STANK. A 1/2 cup of vinegar into the laundry after you add the detergent, and run it regularly. I guarantee you it won’t STANK anymore.
It Helps Pre-Treat that Stank.
Sometimes, you need to pre-treat clothes for a bit before you can put them in the machines. Add 1/2 cup of vinegar and 1/2 cup of water to pre-treat any stank stank you might have. If you have a really bad stank or stain, you can treat it with vinegar directly but be careful with adding too much. Your clothes will thank you.
It Helps Soften the Clothes (Post-Stank).
Add 1/2 cup of distilled vinegar to your rinse cycle and your clothes will come out softer and more refreshed than before!
It Helps Remove Smoke Odors!
Yes, vinegar does a lot of wonders! If you have clothing that is full of smoke (be it a fire or a cigarette), vinegar can easily remove that smell. You guessed it! Adding 1/2 cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle and voila! You no longer smell like a chimney.
It Helps Reduce Lint and Pet Hair!
I have three cats so I know a thing or two about having a lot of pet hair around the house and constantly cleaning up after them. I also know Smokee, our middle cat, loves to lay on top of some fresh laundry, LOL. While I can’t prevent her from doing so, I can prevent the pet haired-clothing being laundered.
Adding 1/2 cup of white distilled vinegar to the rinse cycle does wonders! Trust me when I say this!
It Keeps Dark Clothing Dark!
Dark clothing over many wears and washes, tends to fade. Adding 1/2 cup of white distilled vinegar to the final rinse cycle will help your darker clothing looking like you just purchased them!
It Helps Keeping Your Washer So Fresh, and so Clean Clean!
I should know this one personally. I use my washer everyday and after a while, I can tell when the clothes aren’t as clean as they should be. About once every quarter, the washer gets a thorough wash. I run the hot water cycle and add about 2 cups of vinegar to thoroughly clean it out. You don’t need to buy the fancy items at the store, just spend a couple of bucks for some vinegar and do the rest! Easy, peasy, lemon-squeezy!
