I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with my hair. Unlike some women who prize their hair and treat it like a prized possession, my attitude towards my hair has always been more of an annoyance than a blessing. You see, I have really thick, curly, 4C type hair and my go-to approach of doing my hair is always having someone else do it. I will gladly pay an exorbitant amount of money and sit in a chair for hours just so I don’t have to be bothered with it. I still feel that way.

Funny how a child makes you question some things.

Yoda recently started pulling himself up, which means I can’t wear any wigs or my long natural hair. Putting my hair in a bun or ponytail all of the time wasn’t another solution, neither. So I did what I always wanted to do – I cut my shit off.

I think I was more scared of doing a big chop than the actual act. I immediately felt free and thought of all the great accessories I can wear with my new super short ‘do. I do know I definitely need to color since my silver highlights are more obvious now. But yeah, not quite Poussey but pretty close.

Whether I’ll keep this look remains to be seen. I mainly cut it this short since I plan to put Yoda into swimming very soon and it’s officially summer here so I need to just get up and go as we tackle the world this summer. Last summer I was stuck inside my house on bed rest. This summer, I want to go places and do things.
